Some men sought out a hart for the chase, when one made a rush out of the wood, and hid from them in the shade of a thick vine, so that they quite lost sight of him. It was the best hide and seek that could be, so thought the stag, but he hid not for the sport, but for dear life. There he lay, still as a mouse. In a short time he took heart to browse on the leaves of the vine, which hungso green and fresh just at his nose. He saw no harm in one more crop, and then one more, till he quite lost sight of what he had come there for. More than this, he so shook the tree when he took a bite, that he drew the eyes of the men to the spot, and as the vine was now too thin of leaves to hide him, they shot at him, and he fell down dead.

One hot day a wolf came to quench his thirst at a clear brook that ran down the side of a hill By chance a younglamb stood there. The wolf had a ish to eat her, but felt some qualms, so for a plea he made out that the lamb was his foe. Stand off from the banks, sir, said he, for as you tread them you stir mud in the =stream, and all I can get to drink is thick and foul. The young lamb said, in a mild tone, that she did not see how that could be the case, as the brook ran down hill to her from the spot where he stood.(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.Forgotten Books' Classic Reprint Series utilizes the latest technology to regenerate facsimiles of historically important writings. Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, July 3, 2015)
About the Book Fairy tales, wonder tales, magic tales are a folklore genre taking the form of a short story that typically includes magical beings such as dragons, elves, fairies, giants, gnomes, goblins, griffins, mermaids, talking animals, trolls, unicorns, or witches. Generally, magic or enchantments are involved. Fairy tales are distinguished from legends, are mainly derived from European tradition and folk lore, and are generally children's literature. Mythology has a broader and older pedigree than fairy tales, dating back to ancient times in a number of European, African, Middle Eastern and Asian civilizations. Best known among these to Western audiences are Ancient Greek and Old Norse myths and legends. Generally, these myths and legends describe epic quests, journeys and interactions between human adventurers or heroes and god-like deities. Also in this Book A short story collection is a book that contains short stories written by a single author. It is distinguished from an anthology of fiction, which includes stories by more than one author. Excerpt from Æsop's Fables: In Words of One SyllableSome boys were at play at the edge of a pond, and, as their game was ducks and drakes, they had to throw stones with as much force as they could, to the great harm of some poor frogs in the pool. At length one of them, who was more brave than the rest, put his head out of the pond and said, Oh, dear young sirs, stop, I pray you, for what is sport to you is death to us l.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
